Your Original

Strong Points:

Pretty good job. In general you have a nice composition. The boats are pointing inwards. This is very important to help the viewer's eye enter and stay in the picture. It was wise to put some touches of reddish orange in the shrubs. This offers some relief to the otherwise too predominant greens. It was well thought out. The road doesn't end in the dead center and has a nice "S" movement.

Areas to Work On:
  • It will be easier to convey distance if you cool the greens in the distance and lighten their value.
  • Also shift the hue towards the bluish green or mauve. It isn't exactly clear what your focal point is. I guess it would be the white boat on the right because you have the strongest value contrast in that area. Another possibility would be houses in the background. This would stand out more if you provoke the strongest value contrast there and enrich the colors. Of course, you can have two focal points, which is probably what you wanted. Just make sure you don't place one above the other. Only one of the two should be predominant however. In this case you have two centers of interest which are placed diagonally. This is fine.
  • The house and the boat on the right line up almost the same and you have a dualism because the roof and the front of the boat both have a triangular shape. This could be solved by moving either one farther to either side.
  • The top of the house on the left almost coincides with the height of the trees. There is too little margin of separation.

My modifications:

I gave the foliage in the background more interesting shapes. More punch was given to the flowers that would be in the center of interest. I chose to provide 2 different modified images for this piece, each with a different focal point.

In option 1, I sent the trees back by changing their value and cooling the greens. It is interesting how nice a painting looks when you emphasize only one area. I personally liked option 2 more than option 1. What do you think?
